JLR lists two routes within its Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship. Its current pathway page asks for A-level Maths at grade B for Data Analytics and grade C for Software Engineering. That single grade can change which route you put on your shortlist.
Applications are closed today, 25 October 2026. JLR's 2027 programme cards say applications open in February 2027, but the pathway page still says the exact opening and closing dates are TBC. Its general page also contains older 2026 wording. Treat February as JLR's announced month, not a guaranteed opening day, and check the live advert when it appears.
The two routes and their Maths requirements
Both pathways sit inside the same four-year Level 6 programme, with a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions at the University of Warwick. JLR places the work primarily at Gaydon and Whitley in the West Midlands. Its programme page displays a salary of £26,092; confirm the salary on the 2027 vacancy before relying on it, because parts of that detail page still describe the previous intake.
| Pathway | A-level Maths | Another A-level | Work described by JLR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Analytics | B or above | C or above in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology, ICT, Computer Science, Economics or Engineering | Solve analytics problems, deploy solutions and create reusable data assets |
| Software Engineering | C or above | C or above in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology, ICT, Computer Science, Economics or Engineering | Design, build and test software, including security and engineering principles |
Those are the requirements shown on JLR's digital degree apprenticeship page, checked on 25 October 2026. A C in Maths meets the listed Software Engineering threshold, but not the listed Data Analytics threshold. That does not promise an offer: the rest of the application still matters, and the eventual 2027 advert could change the criteria.
For GCSEs, both routes ask for Maths and English Language at grade 5 or above, plus three more GCSEs at grade 5 or above. JLR explicitly asks for a STEM subject among the three extras for Data Analytics. Its current Software Engineering text does not make that extra STEM condition explicit. Check the new advert rather than treating the difference as a permanent policy.
If you need to compare these with other employers, our guide to GCSE and A-level requirements for degree apprenticeships explains why a single national grade rule will not answer the question.
Choose by the work as well as the grade
Data Analytics is about taking a messy question and making the numbers useful to someone else. JLR describes complex analytics problems, business solutions and reusable data assets. The pathway page says later study may include data science, machine learning and visualisation.
Software Engineering is about making and testing the software itself. JLR describes design, development, integration and security. Its later study examples include real-time operating systems and industrial vision.
Try a small project before choosing. For analytics, take a public dataset, clean it and explain one finding with a chart. For software, build a small tool, write down what failed in testing and fix it. Neither project needs to look like an automotive product. The useful evidence is what you decided, what you changed and why.
JLR says applicants can make only one application per recruitment cycle. That makes the pathway decision worth doing before the form opens. Read the JLR programme overview and compare the work with your own examples, not just the headline salary. If neither digital route fits, its 2027 cards also list engineering and supply chain degree programmes, plus a Level 7 finance apprenticeship. Their separate entry rules need their own check.
What to do before February
- Check your grades against the pathway page. Write down achieved or predicted Maths, your other relevant A-level and your GCSEs. If you are relying on an equivalent qualification, ask JLR before applying.
- Prepare one specific example. A school project, part-time job, club or something you built at home can show how you solved a problem. JLR says previous work experience is not required for its early careers programmes.
- Practise the stated process. JLR currently describes an online form without a CV or cover letter, short online tests and a virtual assessment centre. Use its linked practice area, then recheck the process when the 2027 advert opens.
- Register your interest and watch the official site. The programme card announces February 2027, but neither pathway has an exact day or a published deadline. Do not plan around a date copied from 2026.

The part that matters
One grade separates the listed Maths thresholds. The daily work separates the pathways more. If you enjoy explaining what data means, explore Data Analytics. If you enjoy making a system work and finding its faults, explore Software Engineering. Do the small project now; it will tell you more than guessing from a job title.
ApprenticeWizard tracks live apprenticeships and internships in one place, with filters and a free application tracker. Our database showed 281 active degree-apprenticeship listings on 25 October 2026; that is a site-wide count, not a count of JLR roles. Start your list here.
